Why Is Shopify Applying Double Tax to Newly Created Products?

We have recently identified an issue in Shopify where taxes are being applied twice to newly created products in certain stores. This bug does not affect older products, only those that are newly added.

Details of the Bug

  • Double Tax on New Products: Taxes are being applied twice to products created recently.
  • No Impact on Existing Products: Products created before this bug appeared are unaffected.

Why This Affects Custom Sign Orders

Our app requires the creation of a new product each time a custom sign order is placed. This is necessary to overcome Shopify product variation limitations. Because of this process, the double tax issue is more noticeable when using our app.

Important Notes

  • We do not manage tax calculations; these are handled entirely by Shopify.
  • This issue is a Shopify bug, and we do not have control over or a fix for it.
