How to use the volumetric weight option?

The volumetric weight option allows you to calculate the weight of sign products generated by the Sign Customiser app and then use this weight value to calculate shipping prices. To set up shipping prices using the volumetric weight option, please follow these steps:

Getting volumetric weight information

You will need to contact your supplier or shipping parter for information about:

  1. How shipping partner calculates volumetric weight.
  2. The size of the sign parcel.

For example, I have this FedEx shipping price table that lists prices for different markets and each weight range.

Let's say that my sign manufacturer packages the signs in a package that is 10cm high, and the length and width are 10cm larger than the size of the sign. With this information, we will move to the next steps in setting up the sign size within the app.

Set up Sign Customiser app settings

From the app's dashboard, edit your customizers and go to Required Options > Pricings, then choose to edit your pricing rules. You will need to set up volumetric weight on all your pricing rules.

On the pricing rule editing page, look for the Shipping Price Method option, choose Volumetric Weight (kg), and tick the box for 'Add weight to product instead of calculating price'. Enter the Volumetric Devisor value that you obtained in the previous steps.

Scroll down and click on your size ranges. You will be able to add parcel sizes with options for Length, Width Modifier, and Height Modifier, all of which are 10cm in this example.

After filling in all these values, navigate to your Shopify settings page to set up shipping prices.

Set up Shopify settings

From your Shopify Dashboard, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery and choose to edit the General shipping profile. Products generated by the Sign Customiser app will be added to this profile. It is not possible to use any other profile for now.

Creating shipping zones

On the shipping price table above, you can see that the supplier provides shipping rates for 4 different markets: United States (USA), Canada (CA), Australia (AUS), and United Kingdom (UK). You will need to create 4 different shipping zones to cover all these 4 markets. On the General shipping profile editing page, choose to create zone.

A pop-up will appear, allowing you to set up a zone name and select regions for the zone. Then click Done.

Adding shipping rates

Back to the zone editing page, select to Add rate on the USA shipping zone you just created.

An Add rate pop-up will appear. Fill in the weight and shipping price values from your shipping price table.

You need to repeat this task with different weight ranges and shipping zones.
